About Us

  • How It Started

Founded by Brett Holiday, Taz, Duncan Matlack, and a small circle of hands-on collaborators with backgrounds in racing and restoration. The first project was an Austin-Healey race car, repaired trackside after an accident. That car set the tone for everything that followed.

Word spread quickly through the DIY Garage in Camden, Maine. Without advertising, the business grew entirely through reputation and referral—a pattern that continues to this day.

  • Early Challenges, Real Growth

Space was tight. Parts were hard to source. Paintwork required off-site booths and long days of extra logistics. But each challenge built the foundation for problem-solving and resourcefulness.

By 2020, Squire Motors had expanded into a 5,500-square-foot facility complete with an in-house paint booth. Customers began shipping cars from Florida and beyond—trust that doesn't happen by accident.

  • Reputation Earned

The team grew organically from two founders to eight full-time employees. Work expanded from vintage British sports cars to high-end resto-mods—including a quarter-million-dollar 1949 Chevy pickup that defined a new chapter.

Prioritizing doing the job correctly, even when it meant absorbing mistakes or sacrificing short-term profit. The belief: protect the reputation, take care of the customer, and the rest will follow.

    2021-2024

  • The New Chapter

Moved into a 28,000-square-foot facility designed to support restoration, racing, fabrication, and community under one roof. More than a shop—a destination with a car-club atmosphere where people gather, share stories, and keep these machines on the road.

The vision: host events, expand trackside support, and create opportunities for the next generation of technicians to work on world-class machinery.

Results Speak

We measure success not by volume or scale—but by whether a car leaves our shop safe, reliable, and true to its soul.

Community Driven

Deeply involved in the local automotive community. Partnering with museums, supporting schools, attending shows, and staying connected to the DIY Garage roots.
